2008 ARTIST & EXHIBITORS

RICHARD ADDIS has been carving for over 26 years. He carves in the style of Barnegat Bay and the Delaware River. He now makes his home in North Myrtle Beach.

BOB BART began carving in 1986 which led to making knives and other wood working tools with Alan Knotts of Knotts Knives. Eventually Bob started his own line of knives, Bob Barts Knives which are in use worldwide. He also manufactures a series of knives for world champion carver Dennis Shroeder. Bob resides in Jamestown, NC..

JOHN BAZEMORE is a decoy carver and artist from Georgetown. He offers carved decoys in barnwood and driftwood frames, carved pelicans and egrets, and framed duck prints. John has participated in the Southeastern Wildlife Expo in Charleston.

ALLEN BLIVEN is a two time North Carolina Goose Call Champion. He carves waterfowl calls and also guides waterfowl hunts near Lake Mattamuskett. He and his wife Juli live in Sneads Ferry, NC.

TOM BOOZER is a traditional duck decoy carver from Yonges Island, SC. All of his decoys are handmade using only hand tools following historic methods. In addition to decoys, Tom carves scale replicas of shrimp boats, sailing vessels and dioramas.

JAMES BRANHAM’S woodcarvings of fish and sea life are pieces of art that also can be functional. He makes his home in Lexington, SC.

JOSH BREWER is an artisan whose decoys reflect his attention to detail reflected in the carving and painting styles of all of his creations. Josh is from Delmar, MD.

BRUCE L. BUNCH has combined his passion for the arts and the outdoors to create a series of bird and fishing watercolors, pencils, pen and inks called Art of the Fly, collected by sportsmen worldwide. Bruce’s work had won critical regional, national and international acclaim, including "Best in Show" at the Georgia Wildlife Arts Festival and the "Queen’s Award" (UK) for excellence. Most recently, he has been selected by the South Carolina State Park Service as an Artist-in-Residence.

JAY BURTON is a second generation 18th century and contemporary pewtersmith. He specializes in tableware, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and figurines. Jay lives in Pawley’s Island.

JERRY & ROY CAINES were the featured artists for the inaugural Winyah Bay Heritage Festival last year. They are the grandsons of legendary decoy carver Hucks Caines of Georgetown. The Caines Boys continue the carving tradition.

ROBERT (BOB) CALHOUN is a Myrtle Beach resident who has been carving decoys for over twenty years. He carves full and miniature sized decoys that are made to look old.

CAROLINA PLANTATION RICE comes from Plumfield Plantation on the Great Pee Dee River. Plumfield is the first colonial plantation in the Carolinas to grow rice for commercial sales in over 100 years. It is the original Carolina Gold Rice, a true taste of history.

RICHARD CASH is a decoy carver from Pawley’s Island. His decoys are one half to full size. He also carves shorebirds, songbirds, and carved feather prints.

BILL CHRISMAN says that nature itself is the great inspiration for his finely rendered carvings. Combining the disciplines of sculpting, painting and ornithology, Bill has captured the essence of all species of North American wildfowl. Bill has won numerous awards in national and international competitions. His studio is in Rocky Mount, VA.

JIMMY CLAY'S carvings include ducks, shorebirds, songbirds and fish. He can be found carving and painting at his home in Concord, NC.

ALEX COX grew up hunting and fishing in the woods and waters of Georgetown and Williamsburg counties. Each metal sculpture he creates is an attempt to define the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Alex resides in Charleston.

ROBERT CRUTCHFIELD of Asheboro, NC, designs and hand crafts one of a kind primitive knife art pieces. His designs originate from an interest in and knowledge of Native American stone art. His knives are made with materials that would have been available in nature to the early Americans.

JEFFERY DAY offers limited edition prints, giclee on canvas, and original paintings of the lowcountry. He is from Gilbert, South Carolina.

SHANNON DIMMING is a full time carver and carving instructor and has been carving since 1984. She was a Blue Ribbon Winner at the 2004 Ward World Carving Competition as well as a winner in many other contests throughout the country. She makes her home in Elkton, MD.

KYLE DIXON is the owner of Call of the Wild Studio in Beaufort, NC. His paintings include waterfowl, wildlife and coastal scenes on board and canvas.

JACK DUDLEY, a resident of Morehead City, NC, writes books that combine his avocations of photography and historical research to document the history and folklore of coastal communities.

JEROME DUPRE is a decoy carver and seller from New Orleans. He has shown his working decoys and wood sculptures throughout the country.

BRUCE EARNSHAW is a retired US Air Force Lt. Colonel who resides at Cassina Point Plantation on Edisto Island with his wife Tecla. They offer vintage decoys, fishing collectibles, circa 1850-1900 Winyah Bay area charts and maps, as well as old decoy anchors/weights and vintage birding books.

BERNARD EDWARDS, of Tryon, NC, fell in love with the art of carving decoys in the late 1980’s. Bernard mainly carves waterfowl and fish, boat bookcases, and boat coffee tables.

LENA ENNIS is an artist whose work is primarily based on privately commissioned pieces with subjects in wildlife and portraiture. Her work reflects the beautiful coastal areas of Eastern N. Carolina. Lena has been honored as a featured artist in many festivals. She lives in Newport, NC.

TIMOTHY C. FLANIGAN has been producing top quality wildlife and nature photography images for a myriad of publications for over thirty years. Tim’s photography has won various state, regional and national awards. According to Tim, "the greatest charm of photography is its ability to capture a unique moment in time and share it with others."

ADORA FLATTUM is a self taught artist whose specialty is painting on actual bird feathers. She has a love for wildlife and the outdoors which comes from being raised in the "sportsman’s paradise" of Currituck County, North Carolina. She lives in Grandy, NC.

JANET FOX is a self-taught artist from Georgetown. Her acrylic paintings include various gamefish, turkeys and ducks. She also creates wreaths and mirrors of duck and turkey feathers. Her designs have appeared in the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Bill Tournaments, as well as numerous other events in the state.

Georgetown County Schools - The students of Georgetown County are participating in this years festival through their artwork.

WARREN GLOVER makes over one hundred different knife designs. His Bubba Custom Knives Company features hand ground blades with custom designed handles. Warren is from Cleveland, GA.

PATTY & NICK GOSDIN own Klick Photography Treasures in Hilton Head. Patty’s specialty is nature and landscapes of the lowcountry.

PHILLIP GREENE, owner of Wood Song Canoes, has exhibited in many shows over the last 15 years. His handmade high end canoes and paddles are sold for actual use and collected as art. Phillip lives in Round O, SC.

WAKE HAMRICK deals mostly in North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland decoys and related items. They sell at NC antique shows and in antique malls in Lexington, NC and along I-77 in Jonesville, NC. Wake is from Lexington, NC.

CURWOOD HARRISON is an artist from Burlington, NC. He specializes in rural, wildlife, coastal and historical subjects in watercolor. Curwood has had his paintings appear in the NC Wildlife Calendar.

MIKE HELSABECK, from Lexington, NC, specializes in wildlife realism art. He was named NC Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year in 2006, 2007 & 2008. Mike was also featured on NC Wildlife Resource Calendar for 2007 & 2008.

ROBERT HICKMAN started painting in 1998. His focus now is wildlife and sporting dogs. His work has appeared on the covers of magazines such as Striped Bass and Dove Hunter. His work has been featured by Quail Unlimited and on South Carolina Outdoors television shows. Bob lives in Lexington, SC.

BOB HILL, gunmaker, will be demonstrating hand engraving methods. He specializes in custom built muzzle loading rifles and pistols. He will also be displaying handmade powder horns and hunting bags.

WALTER HILL will be demonstrating traditional blacksmithing methods using a coal fired forge. He has been practicing traditional iron work for 15 years, specializing in reproduction colonial iron work, ornamental gates and railings, handmade knives, and tools. Walter is a lifetime resident of the Plantersville Community in Georgetown County.

MARK HILLIARD is a nature photographer in Pawley’s Island. His fine art nature photography include wildlife, landscapes and nauticals.

RONALD HOLYFIELD & KAY WILLIAMS are artist in acrylic and oil paintings. Their studio, Lost in the Woods, is located in Dayton, Tennessee. Their work includes originals and prints.

JANET HONG has been a wildlife artist for over twenty years. Her acrylic and watercolor paintings include birds, waterfowl, and small mammals. Janet lives in Chesapeake, VA

FRANK JARRELL has been buying, accumulating, trading, swapping and selling sporting books, art and southern items for over sixty years. He and his wife, Sissie, own the Flintside Gallery located in rural Georgia, where they also feature the work of sculptor Robert Jarrell. They reside in Senoia, GA.

CAPTAIN HARRY JOBES has been carving decoys for most of his life. He began carving in Havre de Grace, MD at the age of 9 and learned the art of decoy making in its truest form from R. Madison Mitchell. The Captain has spent all of his life on the Chesapeake Bay and Susquehanna Flats. This close association with nature has given him first hand insight into the waterfowl world. The Captain and his wife Ruth, reside in Aberdeen, MD where their decoy shop is located.

JIM KILLEN - A master artist, avid sportsman, and dedicated conservationist, Jim Killen has reaped national and international awards, including being honored three times as "International Artist of the Year" for Ducks Unlimited. Jim merges his passion for the outdoors into every facet of his life. Jim will have a limited number of artist’s proofs of "Redheads Over Winyah Bay", the 2007 SC Duck Stamp, during this year's Festival.

JOHN A. KOUCHINSKY has been carving for over 40 years. He has won many first in professional class at the US National Decoy Shows. A former owner of the Great South Bay Decoy Company on Long Island, New York, John now makes his home in Georgetown.

DAVID LAKE lives in Pawley’s Island and specializes in the sale of antique decoys, fishing lures and rods and reels. He also offers a collection of vintage boating gear and waterfowl art.

DIANA LAUDERDALE, of Cactus Photography, is a self-taught photographer. Her aim is to find the simple beauty in subjects that otherwise might go unnoticed in a quickly changing environment. Diana resides in Charleston.

KENT LEE is a watercolor and acrylic artist from Lucama, NC. He paints coastal scenes, as well as waterfowl and wildlife either framed or in window sashes. Kent also paints decorative boat paddles and ornaments.

DOCK LINDLEY is a wood artist specializing in carving over 60 species of fresh and saltwater fish. His carvings have a natural finish to accent the wood grain in poplar, walnut and mahogany. An avid diver and angler, Dock lives in Currie, North Carolina.

KEN LOWE completed his first decoy in April 1998. Since then he has won ribbons at many decoy competitions at the novice and open levels. Ken has served as President of the East Carolina Wildfowl Guild based in Washington, North Carolina. He and his wife Dianna make their home in Snow Hill, North Carolina.

CHUCK MAY has whittled and made wooden things since he was 6 years old. His decoy hobby began in 1976 when he carved his first wood duck decoys for his own use. He has won many ribbons in working decoy contests across the country with his traditional gunning decoys of cedar, tupelo, cork, sugar pine and stretched canvas. Chuck lives in Murrells Inlet.

TOLLIVER ODEN hand carves his decoys with details that he has learned from studying live ducks or photographs. He uses the finest balsa and tupelo wood available and his acrylic painting reflects the perfect coloration of the feathers. "Toll" comes from a family of professional artisans. He lives in Deland, FL.

DANNY O'DRISCOLL is a self taught wildlife artist. He learned about animals and birds at his job as staff artist at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia and the Houston Zoo in Texas. He was named artist of the year at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston. He has won numerous awards for his paintings. Danny and his family live in Batesburg, SC.

GERALD PUTT is a wildlife and nature artist from Boiling Springs, PA. His paintings of a trio of wood ducks won the 2007 Pennsylvania Duck Stamp contest, making him the first and only person to win this contest seven times. Gerry’s original paintings, prints and giclees are in collections world-wide, including art collections of President George W. Bush and former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.

WARREN SAUNDERS offers both traditional as well as contemporary gunning birds and shorebirds. He has been carving for over 15 years and is from Hurlock, MD.

CARY SAVAHE-INGRAM specialty is wildlife art. Her work has gained national recognition for its meticulous detail and sensitive portrayal of her subjects. Cary has donated her time and talent to many conservation groups over the years. She lives in Greer, SC.

JOHN AND ELAINE TANNER are local wood-working and basket weaving artisans from the Indiantown Community of Williamsburg County. Through his association with Ancient Cypress LLC, John carves box turkey calls with this ancient wood. Elaine uses this same wood in the bottom of her baskets that are woven with long needle pine straw.

TRICIA VEASEY is a second generation professional decorative wildfowl sculptor in wood, following her father Bill Veasey. She has 7 books published in the field and has birds in numerous private collections throughout the United States and abroad. Tricia has taught bird carving and painting and carved professionally for over 30 years.

WILLIAM "BILL" VEASEY is a decorative waterfowl carver with over 30 years of experience. He has been inducted into the Ducks Unlimited Hall of Fame in recognition of his many years of support. He has authored 14 books and produced 6 videos about carving. His unique carving style has won over 100 ribbons and awards. He resides in Newark, DE.

JOHN & CINDA WALLS are the owners of Knotts Knives by Cousins. In 1997 they started producing all of the Knotts Knives line used for carving. They also have expanded to a small full line carving supply dealer. They offer white cedar, tupelo, basswood and tan cork. All of the wood is kiln dried. Their home is Salisbury, MD.

EVERETT WHITE is a very unique artist working in art made from SC palms. His subjects include fish and mermaids. Everett, and his wife Joanna, live on Sullivan’s Island, SC.

CHARLES "CE CE" WILLIAMS - A craftsman, artist, teacher and storyteller, Mr. Williams has a lifetime of knowledge and the willingness to share it. His roadside stand on Highway 17 south of McClellanville is a local landmark. There you’ll find hand-carved walking sticks and canes and handmade cast nets, all made with the skill, patience and grace of a time long past. In 2005, Mr. Williams was featured in an official report to Congress by the U.S. National Park Service as an example of an authentic practitioner of the Gullah art of making cast nets, which is endangered of being lost from our national culture.

MO YARBOROUGH'S Blacksmith and Knife-making demonstration will give you a glimpse of the art of metal-working by using a small forge according to colonial methods. He resides in Mountain Home, NC.
