About the Winyah Bay Heritage Fesitval
In January 2007, the inaugural Winyah Bay Heritage Festival was staged in Georgetown County with much success. This was followed up in 2008 with an equally successful festival. This event is long overdue considering the rich waterfowl and fishing heritage of the Low Country of South Carolina. The Winyah Bay Heritage Festival is a celebration of waterfowl decoys, and other hunting and fishing collectibles that have been a part of the region’s way of life more than 300 years.
The Festival tries to bring together wildlife artist, exhibitors and collectors from the southeast, as well as admiring hunters and fishermen. The weekend of events will take place in various locations within Georgetown County, including the Historic Downtown District, the beaches of the Waccamaw Neck, and at the rice plantations along the rivers that flow into the Winyah Bay. The featured artists for the 2007 festival were Roy and Jerry Caines, grandsons of world renown decoy carver and Georgetown resident Hucks Caines. |
